Changing our hours to 18/7

I have some important news to share with you related to our prayer room and a significant moment for us as a ministry that will require us to make some significant shifts. This Sunday TPR will turn 21 years old as we celebrate our anniversary. After that date, beginning on Monday morning we will move from a 22/7 schedule to 18/7, still with live prayer and worship.

To begin with, I want to say that this has been a very difficult decision to come to and we don't take it lightly. Over the past several months, we have experienced a significant decrease in the number of worship leaders and other staffing resources needed to sustain the current schedule. This has placed a substantial burden on our staff and community in a way that is unhealthy.

We recognized a couple months back that something needed to shift.  But rather than making a quick decision based simply on the pressures, our leadership team committed to pray and find God’s heart and our way forward. As a team we decided to give the Lord 60 days to make things clear and to do whatever He might want to do. During that time we’ve had hours and hours of discussion as we’ve waited on the Lord to lead us. We called a 21-day fast, which is highly unusual for us (to fast community-wide for a decision) and during that time we’ve all prayed fervently for God to break in with help so that we could sustain our current schedule. We were initially hoping the situation would change and that the Lord would provide what was needed to continue 22/7, and we wanted to give the Lord time to intervene before making such a significant change.

But what became clear to our leadership team over these past two months is that we do not have grace from the Lord to continue the current schedule. This is the first time in 21 years that we have ever felt that; He has always given us grace to sustain the schedule. For us, "grace" doesn't mean something is easy; it means that it’s doable, and that there is a sense of God's agreement with the plan and His accompanying strength to continue, even when things are difficult. But this time is different; continuing 22/7 has become a burden too difficult to carry and we have the growing sense that the Lord is no longer giving us the grace to sustain it.

We recognize that this is a grieving moment, where we really lose something special and important to the heart of God (the night watch and a schedule that closes in on 24/7 worship and prayer). I’ll tell you that for me this is a dying to self in so many ways and I don’t like this decision. But I know it’s the right one, the one He’s leading and that He will make our paths straight. We’ve fought to sustain this for so long, and so it’s right to fell a real sense of loss and ache associated with this shift. Senior Staff has all felt that grief personally as we've processed this together over the last two months.

While tremendously difficult, we know this is the right decision, and we trust the Lord's leadership here. As we have for 21 years, we remain committed to the long-term goal of 24/7 prayer with live worship, but for right now in order to keep going in a healthy way we need to reduce the total amount of hours that we are pursuing that goal. He is good and His ways are right.
